Gilles Simon has advanced to the second round of the Rogers Cup after beating Andreas Seppi in straight sets.
The Frenchman required just 42 minutes to clinch the first set, which his opponent began admirably but relinquished after losing two consecutive serves.
Seppi improved as the contest went on but Simon was flawless and, when it came to the decisive game, the Italian was broken once again, leaving his opponent to win the match 6-2 6-4.
Simon will play either Viktor Troicki or Mikhail Youzhny in the second round of the competition.
