Andy Murray has advanced into the semi-finals of the Rogers Cup by beating Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in 6-4 6-4 in Montreal.
The Scot, who is bidding to become a champion in this tournament for the third time, broke Tsonga's serve in the fifth game and cruised towards winning the first set.
The world number three played aggressively against last year's Rogers Cup winner, as Murray drew first blood in the match without too much pressure from his opponent.
The second set followed the same narrative as the first but it took Murray until the seventh game to break Tsonga's serve.
The two held their serve as Murray saw out the match to cruise into the semi-finals, winning in straight sets.
Murray will face Kei Nishikori in the last four of the tournament.
