Bernard Tomic has registered an impressive straight-sets win over Marin Cilic in the Rogers Cup second round.
The 22-year-old produced one of his best performances of the year to run out a 6-3 6-4 winner against the US Open champion.
Cilic had won their two previous meetings, but Tomic showed that he had improved since their last clash in 2011 by running out a comprehensive winner against an opponent who needs to find some form ahead of his title defence at Flushing Meadows.
A single break of serve in each set was enough for Tomic, who won 80% of points behind his first serve, to ease his way into the last 16.
Tomic will now play the winner of the match between Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Roberto Bautista Agut.
