Novak Djokovic has said that topping the ATP rankings is his ambition during the current tennis season.
The five-time Grand Slam winner is hoping to overtake first-placed Roger Federer during what he believes is the most exciting year the sport has seen for some time.
"The main objective is to try to get to number one in the world and finish the year in his position," Djokovic told Sky Sports News.
"Roger had a fantastic year, and Andy and Rafa [Nadal], so I think this is probably one of the most interesting years in men's tennis in the last decade.
"It's great for the sport, it brings a lot of attention, a lot of popularity, and I'm really thrilled to be a part of this era."
Djokovic was defeated by Andy Murray in the final of the US Open last month, but has since secured the China Open and reached the third round of the Shanghai Masters.
