Spanish 15th seed Nicolas Almagro has reached the quarter-finals of the Shanghai Masters with a three-set victory over Tomas Berdych.

In a tight opening set, both men were brilliant on serve and did not give up any break points on their way to the tie-breaker, which Berdych won.

Almagro responded well in the second set, serving well and managing to save a break point in his second game.

The key break in the set went to the Spaniard in the sixth game and he played well for the rest of the set to take it 6-3.

There was no separating the pair in the deciding set either, and this time it was Almagro who won in the tie-breaker to upset the fourth seed.
