Reigning two-time champion Novak Djokovic advanced to the third round of the Shanghai Masters by overcoming unseeded Austrian Dominic Thiem in straight sets this afternoon.
Thiem began solidly and was going toe-to-toe with Djokovic until the eighth game of the first set when he was broken by the Serb, who went on to serve out the opener 6-3.
Djokovic then broke right at the start of the second set and managed to save a couple of break-back points on his way to a 6-4 success.
Up next for the top seed in the last 16 is a match against Kazakhstan's Mikhail Kukushkin.
