David Ferrer has booked his place in the third round of the Shanghai Masters courtesy of a 4-6 7-6 6-4 victory over Martin Klizan.
The world number five fell behind in the match having suffered the only loss of serve in the opening set, which came in the seventh game. Klizan wasted three set points before eventually prevailing to get a foothold on the contest.
Having both lost serve on two occasions in the second set, a tie-break was required to separate the pair, and despite blowing two set points of his own, Ferrer eventually edged out Klizan to level up.
The deciding set proved to be a tight affair, although Ferrer held his serve to see off the Slovakian, securing his spot in the next round.
