Spanish fourth seed David Ferrer has made it through to the second round of the men's Olympic singles with a straight-sets victory over Canadian Vasek Pospisil.
Ferrer's early break was cancelled out by the world number 85, but he managed to break again to take the opening set 6-4.
The world number five broke twice in the second to establish a commanding 5-2 lead, but was broken for the second time in the match as Pospisil fought back.
However, Ferrer saw out the match 6-4 to send himself through to the next round, where he will meet Indian Vishnu Vardhan or Slovenian Blaz Kavcic.
