World number one Roger Federer has insisted that Novak Djokovic is the favourite to win the US Open.
The Swiss ace, who is looking to win a sixth title in New York, advanced to the second round after a straight-sets victory over Donald Young.
After winning Wimbledon and earning silver at the Olympics, Federer is widely considered as the favourite for the US Open, however the 30-year-old disagrees.
"Novak to me goes in as the favourite still because he's the defending champion. He's probably won the most titles on hard courts the last couple of years. It's where he felt most comfortable," said Federer.
"He's beaten me the last couple of years as well. Then again, I've had a great summer. So has [Andy] Murray. It's going to be an interesting US Open. I'm happy I'm through the first round."
Up next for Federer is a second-round contest with Germany's Bjorn Phau.
