World number three Andy Murray believes that there is less pressure on him to defend his US Open title as he looks to retain a Grand Slam for the first time.

The Scot was successful at Flushing Meadows 12 months ago and added to his title collection by winning Wimbledon last month.

Murray feels that due to his existing tournament wins, there isn't such an intense pressure on him to taste victory in the USA.

"I think there is less pressure," Murray told Sky Sports News. "I think before the first match there will be nerves there, I expect to be pretty nervous because it's a new experience and it's different. But once the tournament gets going, I don't think it changes too much.

"There was a lot of pressure on me for a lot of years to win a grand slam, and then the same sort of thing at Wimbledon. I wouldn't imagine it would be the same here."

Murray will face Frenchman Michael Llodra in the opening round.
