The men's and women's finals at this year's US Open have been rescheduled after recent bad weather.

Heavy rain forced tournament organisers to postpone much of the action on Tuesday and Wednesday, to the frustration of players.

The men's semi-finals will now be played on Saturday from 4pm BST, while the final will be extended to Monday, for the third year in a row, starting at 9pm BST.

The women's semi-finals will now take place on Sunday from 12am BST, with the final also played on the Sunday from 9pm BST.

Defending champion Rafael Nadal was one of the most outspoken competitors to criticise the planning of the tournament, and the Spaniard was left baffled by the latest announcement.

"Having the semi-finals on Saturday is something crazy for the players," he said.

"From our part of the draw it will be a very difficult situation for the player who will be in the final. The semi-finals too, maybe, because two days in a row playing tough matches is difficult.

"The matches, quarter-finals, semi-finals, four rounds of a Grand Slam normally are tough matches. If you don't have rest, you have a big chance not be fit enough to play well in the next match."
