Venus Williams has said that it is "wonderful" to still be playing at the US Open.
The 35-year-old made her US Open debut in 1997, just six months after Swiss opponent Belinda Bencic was born.
Williams progressed to the fourth round after a 6-3 6-4 victory over the 18-year-old.
"It is wonderful to be here still," Williams told reporters. "I love the game, I love the US Open and I love how everyone here got behind me even when I was down in the second set.
"Bencic is a tenacious player so I'm pleased to have played a great match against someone who has won a lot this summer.
"My game is always a balance between playing aggressively and making errors. But I would rather make errors and go for it."
Williams has won the US Open twice, in 1999 and 2009.
