Roberta Vinci has admitted that experiencing high-pressure moments during her doubles career aided her bid to defeat Kristina Mladenovic in the US Open quarter-finals.
Alongside Sara Errani, Vinci has won doubles titles at each of the four major tournaments, and the Italian has revealed that her previous success gave her the confidence to see out a three-set victory over her French opponent.
After the match, the 32-year-old said: "Doubles has helped me. Sara Errani and me have won five Grand Slams.
"We have played on Arthur Ashe and all of the other centre courts so we have the confidence to play this situation. My doubles experiences have definitely helped me."
Vinci will play either Serena or Venus Williams in her first appearance in the last four of the singles at a Grand Slam event.
