Richard Gasquet recorded a 7-5 7-6 6-4 triumph over Denis Istomin on Tuesday night to secure his place in the second round of the US Open.

However, Gasquet produced an impressive response to the setback by breaking his rival twice late on in the set to secure the lead.

Gasquet took a big step towards the win by claiming a 7-5 success in the second set tie-break, before breaking Istomin's serve in the opening game of the third set.
The 12th seed never looked back from that moment, and he stepped up his game with some impressive service games on his way to the straight sets victory.
