British hopeful Johanna Konta has grabbed a place in the second round of the US Open at Flushing Meadows with a 6-3 6-0 victory over Louisa Chirico.
It was a bright start from the Brit, whose best finish at this tournament has been the second round, as she broke serve after opening the game comfortably.
Chirico was able to break back instantly, but Konta was not wavered by the response as she took a 4-2 lead by converting a third break point.
Chirico came close to fighting back as Konta served for the set, but the Brit was able to save three break points to take the lead on the hard court.
Konta went from strength to strength in the second set as she went a break up in the opening game before knocking back Chico's four break-point attempts.
Chirico's spirit seemed to be dented as she failed to pick up a single point on her next serve and Konta eased to victory without a blemish in the second set.
