Kyle Edmund has reached the fourth round of a Grand Slam for the first time by beating John Isner in four sets at the US Open.
The 21-year-old overcame the 20th seed 6-4 3-6 6-2 7-6(5) to set up a meeting with tournament favourite Novak Djokovic at Flushing Meadows.
Isner, who defeated Edmund at the French Open earlier this year, only converted one of his seven break points on Court Louis Armstrong as the Brit joined Johanna Konta in reaching the fourth round.
A break of serve in the fifth game of the opener put Edmund on his way, with the youngster taking his third set point to edge ahead, but his opponent responded well in the second to level up the match.
The key moment came in the third set when, with momentum on his side, Isner created three break points in the opening game only to squander his advantage.
Edmund raced three games to the good before eventually seeing the set through, paving the way for victory in the fifth set when being taken all the way to a tie-break which he took with his third match point.
Fourth-round opponent Djokovic has enjoyed a more straightforward path through, meanwhile, having seen two of his opponents pull out through injury so far.
