Roger Federer has defeated Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in straight sets to secure a place in the semi-finals at the US Open.
The number three overcame his French opponent 6-4 6-3 6-3 in 1 hour 53 minutes of play.
Tsonga showed flashes of the brilliance which gave him victory over Federer at Wimbledon this year but failed to maintain consistency throughout the match.
Federer, who was won the Flushing Meadows title on six occasions, will now face world number one Novak Djokovic in the semi-final after the Serbian defeated Janko Tipsarevic.
The Swiss is the only player Djokovic has lost to in a Grand Slam this year, falling to him at the French Open.
"I played great," Federer said. "For me it continues, and that is awesome. I'm very happy with the way I'm playing, the way I'm moving and I'm enjoying myself on the court."
The semi-finals now take place on Saturday following a change to the tournament schedule.
