Garbine Muguruza has advanced past Carina Witthoeft to reach the second round of the US Open.
The ninth seed has failed to win a match since reaching the Wimbledon final in July, but she got back on track with a 6-2 6-4 win on Tuesday.
The Spaniard broke serve twice on the way to taking the opening set, but a number of unforced errors allowed Witthoeft to remain competitive in the second.
However, after the pair traded breaks, Muguruza struck for a second time to move through to the last 64, where she will now play British representative Johanna Konta.
