Roger Federer has eased his way into the second round of the US Open with an emphatic victory over Leonardo Mayer.
The five-time winner required just 87 minutes to seal a 6-1 6-2 6-2 triumph to begin his attempt to win a first title since 2008 in impressive style.
Federer warmed up for the tournament by capturing the Cincinnati Masters, and the Swiss showed that he will be difficult to beat in New York with another aggressive performance against world number 34 Mayer.
The 34-year-old broke his opponent's serve six times and dropped just 16 points behind his own delivery throughout the match to set up a second-round showdown with either Marcos Baghdatis or Steve Darcis.
