Jo-Wilfried Tsonga booked his place in the third round of the US Open after enjoying a 6-3 6-4 6-4 win over Aleksandr Nedovyesov this evening.
The Frenchman cruised into a first-set advantage after breaking his Ukrainian counterpart twice in the opening six games.
Tsonga, a former quarter-finalist at Flushing Meadows, met with a little more resistance in the second set, with Nedovyesov staying within a two-game deficit, but he failed to get the breaks necessary to stifle the world number 10.
Nothing could separate the pair in the opening six games of the third set, with both players deadlocked on three games apiece.
However, Tsonga pulled out a crucial break of serve in the seventh game, before establishing a 5-3 lead en route to the win.
