Uzbekistan's Denis Istomin knocked out the men's singles 14th-seed at London 2012, Fernando Verdasco, in straight sets this afternoon.
The opening nine games of the affair provided little drama, with neither man facing a break point on his serve. This all changed in the tenth, however, as Spain's Verdasco faced three set points, saving the first two before falling at the third to hand the Uzbekistani the set 6-4.
Once again in the second set neither man could find a way through as each was just afforded a single break-point chance in the opening 11 games.
However, Istomin was presented with a match point at 6-5 on the Verdasco serve but he couldn't take it and the second went to a tie-break.
The breaker was a tense affair, with first Istomin and then Verdasco having the chance to take it. It was the Uzbekistani who came through, however, saving a set point at 8-9 before clinching three points in a row to seal the shock win.
The 25-year-old will next take on either Belgium's Gilles Muller or Adrian Unger of Romania.
