Rafael Nadal is through to the third round of Wimbledon after a 6-3 6-2 6-4 victory against Ryan Sweeting.

The defending champion made light work of his opponent in the first two sets, winning the first four games of the second set before Sweeting slowed him down.

The American, who has never progressed beyond the second round of a Grand Slam tournament, posed the most threat in the third set before the world number one secured his win.

The pair have met twice already this year - at the Australian Open and Indian Wells Masters - with Nadal winning by straight sets on each occasion.

Nadal will go on to face Luxembourg’s Gilles Muller in the third round.
