Maria Sharapova admits that it would be "special" to land back-to-back Grand Slam titles with victory at Wimbledon.

Maria Sharapova has admitted that it would be a "special" achievement to win Wimbledon and secure back-to-back Grand Slam titles in the process.

The 27-year-old, who is ranked number five in the world, heads into next week's event on the back of landing the fifth major of her career at the French Open.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, the 2004 Wimbledon winner said: "It would be very special if I could hold that trophy again. This place has brought me so many great memories and I will always remember them.

"When you come here every single year you always present the challenge to yourself to hold that trophy again. It's such a quick turnaround and I'll have the opportunity to think about that victory further down the line or maybe when I'm on vacation at some point in the year.

"When you come to London your determination has to change because although you've just won a grand slam and won a few clay-court titles, this is a different ball game, a new environment and different grand slam as well."

Sharapova will take on British wildcard Samantha Murray in the first round of the tournament.
