British teenager Jay Clarke has been beaten by Ernests Gulbis across five sets on his Wimbledon debut.
The Grand Slam first-timer lost 4-6 6-3 7-6(3) 3-6 6-4 to the Latvian in a contest that lasted for three hours and 16 minutes.
The 19-year-old proved tough for the former world number 10 to break down in all five sets, and the third needed a tie-breaker to separate them.
Clarke, who is ranked 218th in the world, had only appeared at three ATP Tour-level matches prior to this year's Wimbledon.
Earlier today, British hopefuls Kyle Edmund and Johanna Konta made it through to round two of the tournament.
