Roger Federer is crowned Wimbledon champion for a record-equalling seventh time after he defeats Andy Murray in four sets on Centre Court.

Roger Federer has won a record-equalling seventh Wimbledon title by defeating Andy Murray in four sets on Centre Court.

The 4-6 7-5 6-3 6-4 triumph has seen the 30-year-old Swiss move level with William Renshaw and Pete Sampras for wins at the All England Club.

Murray got off to the best possible start as he broke his opponent's first service game, but Federer soon broke back as the set looked to be heading towards a tie-break.

However, the Scot dug deep with some excellent play across all areas of the court to break again and close out the set 6-4, much to delight of the home crowd.

If Federer looked shaky in the opener he soon found his touch and started spraying his trademark groundstrokes into the corners, stretching Murray across the court.

There was little to separate the two in the second before the rain came down at SW19 and forced the roof to be shut.

When the players came back out after a 25-minute break, the Swiss broke again and edged out Murray to claim the set 7-5 and level the match.

The third was on serve until an epic sixth game which saw Federer break Murray after an incredible 10 deuces.

The Swiss stayed firm thereafter and took the set 6-3 to increase his hold on the contest.

As the Centre Court crowd got behind Murray he was broken again in the fourth. Despite some tremendous resistance from the 25-year-old, Federer was able to hold and see out the set and the match 6-4.
