Argentine Juan Monaco has advanced through to round three of Wimbledon courtesy of a 6-2 3-6 6-3 7-6 win over Jeremy Chardy this afternoon.

Monaco adapted to the smaller outer court better than Chardy in the early exchanges and made the most of his domination by breaking his opponent's serve on two occasions to wrap up the opening set 6-2.

However, Frenchman Chardy responded in the next set, requiring just one break of serve to level up the scores at one set apiece.

Back came Monaco in the third set though, with the number 15 seed breaking on two occasions to leave him just one set away from victory.

He looked to be heading for a comfortable win when he broke Chardy's serve early in the fourth set. Chardy refused to give in though, and soon restored parity with a break of his own.

Chardy's intervention forced the set into a tie-break, which the French player took control of early with a mini break. Monaco responded with two powerful forehand strokes to take the initiative, before serving out to win the breaker and the match 7-3.

He will now face either Viktor Troicki or Martin Klizan in the next round.
