Flavia Pennetta has earned her first round-robin win at the WTA Championships with a 7-6(5) 6-4 victory over Agnieszka Radwanska in Singapore.
It was a wobbly start for the US Open champion as she lost serve in her opening game of the first set, but she was able to bounce back later to level proceedings at 3-3.
Radwanska immediately broke, but it was not enough to give her the edge as Pennetta snatched serve once again to force the set into a tie-break, which the Italian clinched 7-5.
In the second set, games went by the way of serve until Pennetta broke the deadlock on her third break point to take a 4-3 lead.
The 33-year-old, who will retire at the end of the season, managed to maintain her lead and seal the win on serve.
Pennetta is now third in the Red Group, behind Simona Halep and Maria Sharapova.
