Northern Ireland's Aileen Reid has conceded that a slow pace in the cycling leg of the triathlon could damage her hopes of earning an impressive finish in Glasgow.

The 32-year-old, who is competing in the Commonwealth Games for the first time in her career, is certain that she must have clear breathing space between herself and the stronger runners before the final leg.

"I want a fast bike to try and get rid of the fast runners, but the bike course is quite hilly and I have to be content with that," Reid is quoted as saying by BBC Sport.

"I am a strong swimmer and I have to make the front pack, and it will be game on to stay away from some of the stronger runners."

Reid's best finish in the World Series was second in last year's final in London.
