The Netherlands have claimed their fourth speed skating gold from five events at the Winter Olympics, after Stefan Groothuis won the men's 1,000m final this afternoon.
The 32-year-old emerged victorious with a time of 1:08.39, while Canada's Denny Morrison took silver with 1:08.36.
Groothuis's compatriot Michel Mulder, who won gold in the 500m on Monday, claimed the bronze medal with a time of 1:08.74.
United States skater Shani Davis failed in his attempt to win gold at three successive Olympics after finishing in eighth position.
The Netherlands have now collected 10 out of 15 available medals in speed skating at the Sochi Games.
