Evgeni Plushenko has said that he is pleased with his performance in the figure skating team men's short program at the Sochi Winter Olympics on Thursday.
The 31-year-old Russian finished second in the event with 91.39 points, as teenager Yuzuru Hanyu of Japan ended in pole position with 97.98.
"No matter what the overall result [of the team event] will be – I already won because I'm in Sochi," Russia Today quotes him as saying.
"It's my fourth Olympics and it's great. I'm very happy. I'm satisfied with my good performance, jumps and emotions today. So, the first competition day was successful for me."
Russia currently lead the team event, with Canada and China second and third respectively.
