Great Britain's Jon Eley has said that he hopes that carrying the team's flag during the opening ceremony won't be the only highlight of his Olympic Games.

Eley was chosen as flagbearer this week, and he will lead his teammates when Sochi 2014 officially opens on Friday.

However, despite the 29-year-old recognising being picked as a huge honour, he has said that he is determined it will not be all that he is remembered for.

He told TeamGB.com: "Carrying the flag is an honour and hopefully it won't be the only highlight of my two weeks here at the Olympics.

"This will be my third opening ceremony and I've marched behind Rhona Howie and Shelley Rudman, who have both won Olympic medals. Hopefully I can emulate them.

"I'm in Sochi to push for medals. I've come close in the past and hopefully that experience will get me across the line."

Eley is a short-track speed skater and he has finished just outside the medal positions in his two previous appearances in Torino and Vancouver.
