Great Britain curling skip David Murdoch admits that he thought a shoulder injury would end his career after the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.

Great Britain curling skip David Murdoch has revealed that he thought his career was over after the 2010 Winter Olympics due to a shoulder injury.

Murdoch was part of the Team GB side that was defeated in a semi-final playoff in Vancouver, and due to his problem he thought his future in the sport was over.

However, the Scot has hailed Soren Gran for turning his career around, and will now play for the gold medal in Sochi after firing his side to the final following their win over Sweden.

Murdoch told The Telegraph: "After Vancouver, I thought that was probably it, to be honest. I didn't think there would be any way back. You don't get the chances very often to go to the Olympics and there was probably a bit of my head that wasn't in it any more.

"I had a really bad shoulder injury and I thought 'that's me gone' because it required a lot of reconstruction. But I pushed through that, trained hard and big credit to Soren, who changed a large part of my life.

"He brought me to Stirling to train, to throw every morning, to practise harder than I've ever done in my life and he's pushed me right to the edge. We're now getting the rewards from that."

Team GB face off against Canada in the final on Friday.
