Arsenal team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Brentford

Sports Mole rounds up all of Arsenal's latest injury and suspension news ahead of Wednesday's EFL Cup third-round clash with Brentford.
Sports Mole

Arsenal's quest for a third EFL Cup crown begins on Wednesday, as the Gunners make the trip to London rivals Brentford in the third round.

The North London giants have not got their hands on the trophy since 1993, suffering an immediate exit at the hands of Brighton & Hove Albion in last year's edition.

Mikel Arteta's men head into the tie with their unbeaten record for the 2023-24 season intact, but they dropped two points in a pulsating 2-2 draw with bitter foes Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up Arsenal's injury and suspension news ahead of their third-round meeting with the Bees, who fell to a 3-1 loss at home to Everton in their most recent Premier League contest.

Declan Rice

Status: Out
Type of injury: Back
Possible return date: September 30 (vs. Bournemouth)

Declan Rice was an enforced withdrawal at half time in Sunday's North London derby due to a back problem, and while Arteta is hopeful that the midfielder has avoided a serious problem, he will not be available on Wednesday.

Leandro Trossard

Status: Out
Type of injury: Thigh
Possible return date: September 30 (vs. Bournemouth)

Gooners noticed that Leandro Trossard was missing from the club's final set of training pictures before the clash with Tottenham, and the Belgian was subsequently ruled out of that fixture with a small thigh concern, which will render him unavailable here as well.

Bukayo Saka

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knock
Possible return date: September 30 (vs. Bournemouth)

Bukayo Saka limped off the field towards the end of Sunday's derby, and the 22-year-old is expected to miss out here amid fears that he could potentially fail a fitness test prior to the trip to Bournemouth this weekend.

Gabriel Martinelli

Status: Out
Type of injury: Hamstring
Possible return date: September 30 (vs. Bournemouth)

Gabriel Martinelli has sat out Arsenal's last two games with a hamstring problem, and while the club have not put a timeframe on his recovery, he has been left out of the Brazil squad for the next international break, suggesting that a comeback on Wednesday is impossible.

Thomas Partey

Status: Out
Type of injury: Groin
Possible return date: October 21 (vs. Chelsea)

Prior to September's domestic hiatus, the Ghana FA revealed that Thomas Partey had picked up a groin problem in a training session, and the midfielder will still need another few weeks on the treatment table.

Jurrien Timber

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Having had his debut season at Arsenal cruelly cut short by an ACL injury, Jurrien Timber is months away from being available to Arteta again, and it is unclear whether he will return before the campaign closes.
