Owen Coyle: 'Shane Duffy wasn't at his best'

Blackburn Rovers manager Owen Coyle suggests that defender Shane Duffy has been distracted by interest from other clubs.

Blackburn Rovers manager Owen Coyle has suggested that Shane Duffy was not fully focused on his side's game with Cardiff City.

Duffy endured a game to forget in South Wales as he scored two own goals inside the opening 20 minutes before being sent off towards the end of the match.

The Republic of Ireland international has been linked with a move away from Ewood Park, and Coyle has questioned whether the defender was distracted by talk of a potential exit from the North-West outfit.

The 50-year-old is quoted by BBC Sport as saying: "Coming into the club there's a number of situations I've inherited. Shane, Ben Marshall - there have been offers that were rejected a couple of weeks ago.

"But what you have in the modern game is third-party interest, somebody in one ear telling you one thing, someone else in the other ear telling you another.

"They have their heads turned and you've got to manage that in the modern game. When you step on that field you've got to be at your best and be at your maximum and, unfortunately, that's not happened tonight."

Blackburn currently sit at the bottom of the table without a point from their opening three games.
