Nathan Jones has left his position as Brighton & Hove Albion coach to become a manager for the first time with Luton Town.
The 42-year-old has signed a two-and-a-half year contract with the League Two side, who have been without a manager since John Still's departure last month.
Brighton boss Chris Hughton said that he understood Jones's reasons for wanting to leave.
"The club has been aware of Nathan's ambition to become a manager for some time - and we all would like to wish him well in his new role," Hughton told the Seagulls' website.
"Nathan has been an important member of my backroom team as first-team coach during my tenure, and while I can only comment about the time I have been here, I am aware that he's also been an important part of the coaching team in recent seasons."
Luton was also the club Jones first played professionally for when he signed for the Hatters in 1995.
