South coast rivals Brighton & Hove Albion and Southampton claim a point apiece from their Premier League encounter at the Amex Stadium.

Brighton & Hove Albion have made it three Premier League games without defeat by claiming a 1-1 draw in Sunday afternoon's Premier League meeting with Southampton at the Amex Stadium.

The Seagulls pegged back their south coast rivals through a Glenn Murray goal early in the second half, having conceded to a Steven Davis header just seven minutes in.

Neither side could find a winner and in the end a point apiece seemed the correct result, lifting Brighton up to 11th place in the table and Southampton - also without defeat in three matches - into ninth.

Davis got the visitors up and running early on when reacting quickest to nod the ball home after returning midfielder James Ward-Prowse hit the crossbar from a free kick - the Saints' first headed goal of the campaign.

Brighton had a small shout for a penalty turned down when Murray was challenged in the box, while the striker also came close to converting at the end of a dangerous Pascal Gross delivery.

Sofiane Boufal, restored to the starting lineup by Mauricio Pellegrino this afternoon, produced some fine skill out wide before picking out Dusan Tadic who perhaps should have done better with his attempt.

Soon after Anthony Knockaert has a penalty appeal of his own rejected, Albion squandered two good opportunities to bag the game's second goal.

Knockaert was unable to convert Jose Izquierdo's cross and Shane Duffy sent the winger's next delivery over the crossbar, but they would get their reward seven minutes into the second half when drawing level.

Adding to his two goals against West Ham United last week, Murray squeezed his headed attempt past the hand of Fraser Forster following another dangerous Gross cross.

Murray nearly added a second soon after but failed to make the desired contact with his shot, as Brighton - seeking a fourth win in their first 10 top-flight games for the first time - took control of things.

Manolo Gabbiadini had half a chance to convert from a tight angle in the final quarter of the match, but neither side truly did enough to pick up all three points as things petered out.
