Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew 'shocked' by first 45 minutes at Hawthorns

Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew admits that he was 'shocked' by his team's first-half performance in their 3-2 defeat at West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.

Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew has claimed that his team lost out physically in the first half of their 3-2 defeat at West Bromwich Albion.

Goals from Craig Gardner, Craig Dawson and Saido Berahino saw the Baggies lead by three clear goals at the interval of Saturday's clash.

Palace striker Connor Wickham scored twice in the second half to hand the visitors hope of a point, but Pardew has admitted that the match was lost in the opening 45 minutes.

"For the first 30 minutes they swamped us with aggression and power. Their front two caused us problems but our front two didn't and our distribution wasn't good," Palace told BBC Sport.

"The first half was a shock to me, the goals went in quickly, and it knocked our confidence. In the second half we were a completely different side. Our two strikers were ineffective but looking at Emmanuel Adebayor, I have to manage him properly as we have a game on Tuesday.

"The structure of the team worked a lot better for us in the second half, that's how we've had our success with Yannick Bolasie and Wilfried Zaha on the wings and that gives us more balance. 3-0 down at West Brom is a tough agenda, so credit to them for coming back."

It is now 10 Premier League matches without a win for Palace.
