How Germany could line up against Austria

Sports Mole takes an in-depth look at how Germany could line up for Tuesday's international friendly against Austria.

Germany head coach Julian Nagelsmann should ponder one or two alterations for Tuesday's international friendly with Austria at the Ernst-Happel-Stadion in Vienna.

Die Mannschaft's first home game under the 36-year-old ended with Turkey running out 3-2 winners on Saturday evening, where Arsenal's Kai Havertz went from hero to zero.

The former Chelsea man started in a fluid left-back role, where he opened the scoring with five minutes gone before giving away Turkey's game-winning penalty with a controversial handball.

Nagelsmann has an out-and-out left-back on the bench in the shape of David Raum, who is a contender to demote Havertz to the bench, but the remainder of the backline might remain unchanged.

As a result, Mats Hummels and Niklas Sule may have to wait their turn, as Jonathan Tah, Benjamin Henrichs and Antonio Rudiger shield Kevin Trapp, who is taking advantage of Manuel Neuer and Marc-Andre ter Stegen's absences.

Joshua Kimmich and Ilkay Gundogan could keep Leon Goretzka at bay in midfield again, with in-demand Bayer Leverkusen playmaker Florian Wirtz operating just ahead of the duo.

By crashing home Germany's second goal at the near post on Saturday, Niclas Fullkrug brought up his 10th international goal in just 12 caps, a record only Serge Gnabry (10 goals in 11 appearances) can better.

Gnabry was only a substitute in the loss to Turkey, but the Bayern Munich man is in contention to join Fullkrug and Leroy Sane in the final third, thereby demoting Julian Brandt down to the bench.

Germany possible starting lineup: Trapp; Henrichs, Tah, Rudiger, Raum; Gundogan, Kimmich; Sane, Wirtz, Gnabry; Fullkrug
