Leeds United manager Dave Hockaday has insisted that he did not fear for his job at the weekend, despite owner Massimo Cellino admitting that he came close to firing him.

The Yorkshire club was on the receiving end of a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Watford, a third loss in five games.

Subsequently, Cellino claimed that he had all but decided to fire the 56-year-old coach, only to change his mind at the last minute.

Hockaday told BBC Sport: "I had a two-hour conversation with the president on Sunday and we spoke about players needed and everything else.

"I didn't think I needed to justify anything or defend myself. I believe I am a good coach and I am getting the best out of this group of players.

"My remit is to coach the players, pick the team and win as many matches as we can."

Hockaday was appointed by the Championship club in June.
