Jamie Vardy: 'We just wanted to be competitive against Manchester City'

Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy reveals that his side merely wanted to be competitive during their 4-2 victory over Manchester City at the King Power Stadium.

Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy has said that his side simply wanted to be "competitive" during this afternoon's 4-2 victory over Manchester City at the King Power Stadium.

The Premier League champions served up a throwback to last season's form with a blistering display against Pep Guardiola's side, and none more so than Vardy, who ended his goal drought with a hat-trick to fire the Foxes to a convincing victory.

The result comes off the back of a 5-0 Champions League defeat at the hands of Porto, and Vardy revealed that he was champing at the bit to play having been one of a number of players rested for the midweek trip to Portugal.

"We just wanted to make sure we were competitive today. I think we've done that," he told BT Sport.

"Everyone we left at home [in midweek] would rather have travelled but we're all in it together. Now we're looking forward to getting back on the training pitch."

The win was Leicester's first in their last six Premier League games and sees them climb four points clear of the relegation zone.
