Fulham and Manchester United go into the break locked at 0-0 despite a first half that saw the woodwork get hit five times.

Fulham and Manchester United have gone into half time of their Premier League encounter all square after an opening period that saw the woodwork struck an incredible five times.

The visitors came within inches of breaking the deadlock after just eight minutes when Mark Schwarzer's save from Nani's shot fell to Patrice Evra, but the Frenchman scuffed his shot from six yards out and hit the bar.

John Arne Riise came close soon after, unleashing a trademark long-range effort that forced David de Gea into a fine flying save.

The hosts then hit the woodwork themselves as a slick counter attack allowed Bryan Ruiz space to shoot, but his effort with the outside of his foot struck the post.

Just two minutes later Fulham struck the woodwork again, but this time it was their own crossbar as Brede Hangeland almost turned the ball into his own net.

Wayne Rooney was the next to be denied by the frame of the goal as he linked up well with Robin van Persie only to see his effort glance the foot of the post on its way out.

Rooney hit the post yet again with a curling effort from the edge of the box following good buildup play between Nani and Tom Cleverley.

The match was temporarily suspended towards the end of the half due to a floodlight failure, but the players were soon back on the pitch to play out the remainder of the half.
