Steve Evans: Survival would be Rotherham United's "biggest achievement"

Steve Evans refuses to play down the magnitude of Rotherham United's clash against Reading, claiming that it is the club's "biggest" game in recent history.

Rotherham United boss Steve Evans has claimed that avoiding relegation this season would top any of the club's recent achievements.

The Millers, who have climbed from League Two to the Championship in the space of two seasons, can secure their place in the second tier of English football with a victory over Reading on Tuesday night.

A three-point deduction passed down by Football League chiefs has left the Yorkshire outfit looking nervously over their shoulder of late, but their fate remains very much in their own hands over the next five days.

"This is the biggest game the stadium has hosted in its short lifetime," Evans told BBC Sport. "It's a big opportunity to secure our Championship status and we need to produce a big performance because I have nothing but respect for them.

"We said three years ago we would get out of League Two, we said two years ago that we would get up through League One and we said last year we'd stay in the Championship. This is the biggest fight and the biggest task and it would be the biggest achievement.

"When you see the quality of teams that have come here on a bi-weekly basis, I think our supporters deserve to see that type of opposition. The more you look at who could be in the Championship next season the more exciting it gets but we have to earn that right."

Should Rotherham pick up three points from their game in hand, Millwall and Wigan Athletic will be condemned to relegation.
