Southampton claimed their fourth successive win in the Premier League by beating Leicester City 2-0 at St Mary's Stadium this afternoon.

Shane Long came off the bench to score twice and help them keep up the pressure on league leaders Chelsea.

Here Sports Mole takes a look at who impressed during an engaging 90 minutes.

SOUTHAMPTON

Goal

Fraser Forster: Did not have to make a save. He was rarely troubled, but showed a commanding presence inside his area. (7/10)

Defence

Nathaniel Clyne: Solid performance from the recent England call-up. Got up and down his flank well all afternoon and threatened from range with a couple of strikes. (7/10)

Jose Fonte: Dependable at the back against the tireless Vardy. Made sure that the visitors did not have a chance and was strong in the air. (7/10)

Toby Alderweireld: Just like his defensive partner he enjoyed a comfortable game at the back. Was booked early in the second half for hauling down Vardy and was lucky that there was a covering defender. (7/10)

Ryan Bertrand: Excellent display from the full back. He was able to get down the left constantly all afternoon and delivered a number of telling crosses. (8/10)

Midfield

Morgan Schneiderlin: Another dependable showing from the Frenchman. Used possession well and was part of his team's best moves. (7/10)

Steven Davis: Had a decent start to the match, but was forced off with an injury after 40 minutes. (6/10)

Victor Wanyama: Solid in the middle and made sure that Leicester struggled to build any attacks. He also showed his class with a brilliant ball over the top that Long latched onto to score the second goal. (7/10)

Attack

Saido Mane: Busy showing from the Senegal international who came the closest to scoring in the first half and always looked to make something happen when he was on the ball. He faded after the break and was eventually replaced by the goalscorer Long. (7/10)

Dusan Tadic: Not the most influential of games for the midfielder. Was given a lot of space down the right in the first half, but failed to provide any telling crosses. Improved after the break and was involved in many of his team's best attacks. (7/10)

Graziano Pelle: Although he failed to find the net, the striker was crucial in his team's first goal. It was his control and hold-up play that set up Long to curl the ball in. He had a couple of headed efforts, but was mainly kept quiet by the visiting defence. (7/10)

Substitutes

Shane Long: Came on for the last 22 minutes and scored both of his team's goals. Took his first with a precise curling effort from the edge of the box, before running through to add a second. Almost scored a third, but his two were enough to claim the three points. (9/10)

Jack Cork: Replaced the injured Davis in the first half and played a part in the first goal with his ball in to Pelle. (6/10)

Harrison Reed: Was only on for the final minute of stoppage time and did not see any of the ball. (6/10)

LEICESTER CITY

Goal

Kasper Schmeichel: Could not have done much about either of Long's goals. He dealt well with everything else, as the Saints put his defence under heavy pressure throughout. (6/10)

Defence

Ritchie De Laet: Played well in the first half as his team went into the break on level terms. Was replaced by Moore shortly after the restart. (6/10)

Wes Morgan: Made some important challenges and was strong in the air as his team held out for 75 minutes. However, he was unable to get to Long quickly enough to stop his first goal and he allowed the striker to run in behind him for the second. (6/10)

Marcin Wasilewski: Had a decent game up until the moment Southampton scored. He was not strong enough to beat Pelle in the air, as the striker laid the ball off for Long to score. (6/10)

Jeff Schlupp: Probably the best Leicester player of the match. Looked dangerous from the start and got forward well. He was solid at the back too and was rarely beaten for pace. (7/10)

Midfield

Danny Drinkwater: Decent in possession and used the ball smartly. Faded in the second half as the opposition dominated the match. (6/10)

Andy King: Was forced back as his team looked to withstand Southampton's growing pressure. Was replaced shortly after his side conceded. (6/10)

Matty James: Another one of Leicester's midfielders who struggled. He also took his team's set pieces, but struggled to come up with anything dangerous. (5/10)

Esteban Cambiasso: Not the greatest of afternoons for the Argentine. Did not see too much of the ball as his team struggled to keep possession. (6/10)

Attack

Jamie Vardy: The striker endured a tough match as his team found it hard to get forward. However, he was a tireless runner and always looked to put the Saints defence under pressure. (6/10)

Leonardo Ulloa: Quiet afternoon for the Argentine. Did not have many chances to try his luck on goal and was replaced with 19 minutes left to play. (5/10)

Substitutes

Chris Wood: Came on for Ulloa and had his side's best chance of the match. He put the ball wide from just a few yards out and it ruined any chances the Foxes had of a late comeback. (5/10)

Nick Powell: Was brought on shortly after his side conceded the first goal and made little impact. (6/10)

Liam Moore: Replaced De Laet early in the second half and helped to quell the threat of the impressive Bertrand. (6/10)
