Tottenham Hotspur begin their pre-season tour in Australia with a 2-1 defeat to Juventus in the International Champions Cup.

Two goals in the opening stages of the game have helped Juventus to a 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in the International Champions Cup.

Before their trip to Australia, Spurs had only played a number of pre-season games behind closed doors and their lack of sharpness was evident in the first 15 minutes as Juventus eased into a two-goal lead.

After Ryan Mason and Dominic Ball failed to deal with the ball, Roberto Pereyra pounced and his pass to Paulo Dybala allowed the Argentine to drive the ball into the bottom corner from 12 yards.

The Premier League side were all at sea in defence and moments after Dybala had a half-volley tipped wide by Michel Vorm, Juventus doubled their advantage when Mehdi Benatia rose above the Spurs defence to head into the far corner.

The remainder of the opening period was played at a pedestrian pace with Spurs offering nothing in the final third, leaving debutant Vincent Janssen with nothing but scraps to feed on as his teammates remained content to keep hold of possession.

Spurs improved after the restart but Juventus should have made it three on 53 minutes when a tremendous through-ball from Hernanes found Miralem Pjanic, but the new signing could only volley over from inside the penalty area.

Soon afterwards, Spurs substitute Erik Lamela lashed a shot marginally wide of the far post but he soon made amends by finding the bottom corner from a similar position as he beat Neto from 16 yards.

Both managers continued to make alterations but it did not stop Lamela nearly finding a second after a neat touch from Shayon Harrison, although the Argentine's effort was straight at Neto.

Harrison almost made a name for himself in added-on time after being found by Lamela but after his low shot was tipped wide by Neto, Juventus were able to seal the win.
