Ashley Williams: 'Win over Arsenal is massive'

Swansea City skipper Ashley Williams acknowledges that his side's win over Arsenal could be "massive" for their survival hopes, but stresses the need to back it up.

Swansea City captain Ashley Williams has acknowledged that his side's victory over Arsenal on Wednesday night could be "massive" for their survival hopes.

Williams scored the winning goal in a 2-1 triumph at the Emirates Stadium to lift his side six points clear of the relegation zone with 10 matches remaining.

The Swans now take on Norwich City, Bournemouth and Aston Villa - all fellow members of the bottom six - in their next three games, and Williams stressed the importance of backing the Arsenal win up with another positive result.

"The win is massive. We seem to enjoy coming here for whatever reason but we need points from all places now and nobody thought we would get them here," Williams told reporters.

"They were all looking at the next three games, but, by winning here, we try and build on it and go into Norwich. If we don't win there and back up the win then we are back at square one. Hopefully this gives us enough confidence to know we can get results anywhere. We can go and beat a team challenging for the title so we can beat anyone on our night.

"I don't think 33 points would be enough but it would go a long way. Every point or three points we get now on is massive. We are going out to win games as we should be doing but even if we win Saturday we know it is not job done."

Swansea were missing manager Francesco Guidolin for the match against Arsenal, and could be without him again this weekend after the club revealed that he had not yet been given a release date from hospital.
