Alan Pardew: West Bromwich Albion players "can be very proud"

Alan Pardew says that his West Bromwich Albion players "can be very proud" after keeping Liverpool relatively quiet in Wednesday's goalless draw.

West Bromwich Albion manager Alan Pardew has praised his players for holding a rampant Liverpool side to a goalless draw at Anfield.

The Baggies claimed a point from their trip to Merseyside, as they became just the fifth team to stop the Reds from scoring in 43 Premier League games under Jurgen Klopp.

Pardew's men also had the odd chance to come away with all three points on Wednesday night, but in the end the 56-year-old - appointed as Tony Pulis's successor at the end of last month - declared himself happy with the draw.

"It's something that we'd worked hard on in the training ground, making sure our distances were good and our attitude and application on the break was good," he told reporters.

"On transition today we could still improve, but it was better than it was at Swansea [at the weekend], we had fewer opportunities but we were better with them. We had some outstanding displays on the pitch tonight. The back four were terrific, the midfield worked very hard, we were very strong tonight.

"They had all the big hitters out there, it wasn't like we came up against a Liverpool side who had left a few out, it was a real force. We kept them quiet and I think the players can be very proud of their performance."

West Brom are now winless in their last 16 matches in all competitions - the longest-such run in the West Midlands club's history.
