Sports Mole takes a closer look at the key talking points from West Ham United's 2-0 victory over Norwich City.

West Ham United climbed to 10th in the Premier League on Tuesday evening by beating Norwich City 2-0 at Upton Park.

Norwich wasted a number of opportunities before falling behind in the 84th minute, when James Collins headed in a Mohamed Diame cross to give his side the lead.

The visitors pushed for a way back into the game in the closing stages but the result was confirmed when Diame broke away to beat John Ruddy with a deflected effort.

Below, Sports Mole takes a look at the key talking points from the match.

Was the result fair?

Norwich fans will be struggling to believe that they have not claimed something from the game. They created a number of great opportunities but a lack of a killer instinct in front of goal cost them dearly. Both sides enjoyed spells of domination and, on balance, a draw probably would have been a fair result.

West Ham's performance

Sam Allardyce's side struggled to create chances for much of the game but they battled impressively even when Norwich were on the front foot. Diame's introduction in the second half made a big difference and the hosts grew in confidence as the game progressed. The Hammers have played much better in recent weeks but they showed good character to pick up a valuable win.

Norwich's performance

Chris Hughton will be kept up tonight thinking about the chances his side missed at Upton Park. Robert Snodgrass wasted a good opportunity, while Gary Hooper was guilty of missing to excellent chances to give his side the lead before James Collins broke the deadlock. Norwich looked a threat on the counter-attack for most of the game but they seemed to settle for a point too early as West Ham struck twice late on.

Sports Mole's man of the match

Adrian: West Ham's Spanish goalkeeper would have received plenty of pats on the back from his teammates in the home dressing room after the game. Adrian produced a string of crucial saves to deny the visitors and his contribution will not be forgotten by the Hammers supporters.

Biggest gaffe

Hooper goes home with this dubious honour. If his effort in the first half was a decent opportunity, the chance that came his way in the second half was a sitter. Snodgrass executed the perfect pass for the striker, who lacked composure in front of goal as he poked the ball straight at Adrian.

Referee performance

Michael Oliver was able to enjoy a pretty quiet evening at Upton Park, with the game being played without any moments of controversy.

What next?

West Ham: Allardyce takes his team to St Mary's Stadium on Saturday as the Hammers look for their fourth successive win when they take on Southampton.

Norwich: The Canaries are back in action on Sunday afternoon when they host Tottenham Hotspur at Carrow Road.
