John Moonlight: 'We weren't ruthless enough'

Canada sevens captain John Moonlight calls for his side to be more ruthless despite their 33-0 victory over Trinidad & Tobago in the bowl quarter-final today.

Canada sevens captain John Moonlight has expressed his belief that his side were not ruthless enough despite cruising to victory over Trinidad and Tobago at the Commonwealth Games today.

The Canadians opened the second day of action at Ibrox with a 33-0 victory in their bowl quarter-final having narrowly missed out on the medal rounds courtesy of defeats to New Zealand and Scotland yesterday.

Two more victories this afternoon will see Canada pick up the bowl in Glasgow, but Moonlight believes that his side need to show more of a cutting edge if they are to achieve their new goal.

"First half we weren't really ruthless, we left a few tries on the field. We've got to clean that up for the rest of the weekend - I think it's been a problem all weekend. We have to make sure for the next game that we are a bit more ruthless and finish off the chances we have," he told Sports Mole.

"It's always tough and disappointing when you don't qualify for the top rounds, especially at the Commonwealth Games as it's every four years. But we've got to keep going now. We want three wins today, so we've got to get the next one and hopefully go through to the final.

"That's our goal now. We want three wins on the day, so we're going to work hard to get it."

Canada will face Uganda in the bowl semi-finals in the first match of the evening session today.
