Billy Vunipola saw red as England's penultimate World Cup warm-up match ended in a heavy defeat to Ireland in Dublin.

Steve Borthwick's side - who were without Owen Farrell as he waits to learn the outcome of an appeal against his rescinded red card - were on the receiving end of a 29-10 beating, and Vunipola's dismissal only added insult to injury.

An early George Ford penalty propelled England into the lead, but Bundee Aki and Gary Ringrose crossed the line for Ireland either side of a missed attempt from Ford, as the hosts entered the break with a healthy advantage.

Twelve minutes into the second period, Vunipola was initially given a yellow card for a high challenge on Andrew Porter, and with the 30-year-old sin-binned, Ireland notched their third try through James Lowe.

England's evening went from bad to worse as Vunipola's punishment was upgraded following a review, and Borthwick's depleted troops were caught cold again by Mack Hansen in minute 64.

Kyle Sinckler did register for England with nine minutes remaining, but the day belonged to Ireland and Keith Earls, who marked his 100th Ireland appearance with the final try of the match.

England's final World Cup tune-up game sees them battle Fiji next Saturday, while Ireland square off against Samoa in seven days time. body check tags ::
