Eddie Jones: 'Rugby growing in Japan'

Japan coach Eddie Jones believes that rugby is a growing sport in the country after his side's shock 34-32 victory over South Africa in the Rugby World Cup.

Japan coach Eddie Jones has suggested that rugby is a growing sport in the country after his side's victory over South Africa in the Rugby World Cup on Saturday.

Jones's team produced the biggest shock of the tournament's first round of fixtures after beating the Springboks 34-32, and he believes that the result has helped to elevate the status of the game in Asia.

"Apparently rugby's on the news now, which is unusual," Jones told The Scotsman.

"It's usually sumo and baseball but the big guys have had to move out the way now.

"It's fantastic for the sport going forward. We want it to be a global sport, and an Asian country beating a top-tier country really makes it global."

Japan will take on Scotland in their next Rugby World Cup match on Wednesday.
